Biography/Experience
Philane started playing wheelchair basketball as a young child of 6 years while his father played the sport at the Vaal Reefs Club in Klerksdorp. He joined the Vaal Reefs club and started playing at the PCCL competition at the age of 10. His talent was visible from the start. He was awarded provincial colours for the first time at the age of 16 and assisted the NW U19 team to get the desired silverware with Gold, Silver and Bronze medals raining year after year.
In 2019 he took a transfer and joined the GBT Mongoose club and played at the PCCL level and Super Sports Level. After a break healing an injury obtained in another sport he is now back in full force. Philane is agile, fast on the court and a good scorer. He has a dynamic personality and the ability to motivate his team to work hard.
His ambition: “My aim for 2024 is to be better than a few years back before I took a break. I want to help my team to reach gold in the Super Sports League and dedicate my year to the fallen heroes who taught me the game of wheelchair basketball, namely my father Jomo Khumalo, Buntu Manyana and my previous coach Shadrack Moepeng.”
