About us

We believe in the power of sports to transform lives

The GBT Mongoose provides wheelchair basketball for players of different performance levels and experience. Our development program shapes players at a younger age to become the best version of themselves over several years through individualized coaching and participation in training camps. During the Provincial Championship League (PCCL) everyone has a chance to try out their acquired skills, get feedback and learn more during the games. As teams proceed to higher levels of competition, the expected performance standard rises.

Our High Performance Training challenges athletes with specific talents and more experience to develop the expertise desired at the highest competition level, the Super Sports Franchise League. High performance players are expected to work on their own while accepting guidance from coaches and top performing players. By putting together our teams in a unique way we try to promote upcoming players to shine among the greats.

I am proud of our team’s long history of struggle. Leading the club for 26 years has taught me to believe in the small beginnings, work with the community and invest into long-term development. The GBT Mongoose has been a team to reckon with on any level of competition with its never-give-up mentality.

Make A Difference

01

Enable Inclusive Sports

You can become as sponsor of a program, the purchase of equipment, transport or professional services. Each contribution directly reaches the team and helps render the sport which means so much for young people with mobility challenges. Providing wheelchair basketball promotes inclusive sports as also able-bodied athletes can participate in the team. We include people of all walks of life, gender and ages, as long as they abide with the team’s code of conduct.

02

Influential contributions

How can I help if I am not a sponsor and can’t give big money? No matter how small, your contribution counts and means the world to us. You can a difference by making smaller contributions using our back-a-buddy campaign link using the buttom “donate now”. You can make small donations, or a regular amount, basically any contribution, can make a big difference when they all add up. With your collective help we will achieve big goals and can celebrate milestones together!

03

Volunteer your service

Running a club and rendering sports for several teams at various levels also requires man and woman-power. We have a small premise with a garden and store around our court to care for. Your magic touch could restore our once beautiful garden which suffered a bit from lack of hands. Our equipment store and wheelchairs also need regular servicing. Therefore we welcome volunteer helpers, officials, and ground workers. For the wellbeing of our players, we welcome community physiotherapists and doctors to volunteer their services while learning more abilities and challenges of athletes with a disability. If you want to offer your services click here.

If you want to take your support to the next level you can become a name sponsor and partner with the club’s franchise MONGOOSE which affords you to advertise your brand in televised games. To engage with us for sponsorships kindly fill the contact form How to become a sponsor

Funds are needed for specialized wheelchairs, consumables like wheelchair tires, tubes, spare parts, playing kits, transport subsidies for players, and facility upgrading and maintenance.

What Our Atheletes Say
I am one of the youngest players in the team. Being part of the team means a lot to me because our team has a lot of experienced players, such as Vostile, Thusca, OD and Mamba. These people have helped me a lot since I joined the team in 2021. They have been making sure that they develop me in a good way. I find myself motivated whenever I am around them because they build me as player and as a person. I believe I am not the only player they assist in this manner. Our team is the only one developing new players in the North West Province. I strongly believe there will be those upcoming players they will be helping like they do with me right now. Some of them even sacrifice their time to help me and I really appreciate that. Being one of the youngest players of the Mongoose Club means so much to me – I have never been demotivated at any time.
